Blackburn v Liverpool (Wed 8 Apr 2015)

On Wednesday night, Liverpool meet Blackburn at Ewood Park, in what is undoubtedly the Anfield clubs only chance to take home some silverware this season. With the Scousers big odds on favourites, we question whether or not there is value in backing them, or if your money is better placed elsewhere.

First we must consider what went wrong for Liverpool in the first leg. The Reds had over 70% possession and 22 shots, though only 4 on target and most importantly, 0 goals. Blackburn, in comparison, had just 4 shots with only 1 on target. Liverpool dominated the game, but Blackburn showed promise at times, with Rudy Gestedes performance a particular highlight.

After sitting back in the first game, Blackburn will be under pressure from their home fans to show a bit more enterprise and goal-scoring appetite in the second leg. However, they will also be weary of the fact that one Liverpool goal will ruin their chances courtesy of the away-goal rule, so don't be surprised to see a nervy Blackburn early on.

This will starkly contrast with Liverpool's approach to the game. Brendan Rodgers men will be full of belief, and aware that they have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Rodgers will have them geared up not just to win, but to win comfortably. He's not a man who will settle for the draw - he will aim to entertain their faithful away supporters. Therefore, at 8/13 with bet365 - Liverpool to win is our top tip for this game.

For a more risky bet, back Raheem Sterling to score first AND Liverpool to win. The youngster has become pivotal this season, and regularly hits the heights in the big games. You should get healthy odds on this one, but wait until closer to the game just in case injury hits.

For a safer bet, go with Liverpool to qualify (2/5 on BetFair) - this will cover you in case Blackburn score a fluke goal and Liverpool go through on away goals.
